From the tearoom to a gala event, Tiffany & Co's diamond-studded watch is the brand's most versatile timepiece to date

The quintessential New York City woman is known for her sophistication, individual sense of style and round-the-clock energy. With the launch of the Big Apple-inspired Tiffany Metro collection, women everywhere can own a timepiece that is cool, elegant and also gratifyingly diverse.

“The Tiffany Metro watch reinterprets our past to reflect an elegant and unique timepiece for the modern woman. The streamlined diamond design and array of style options make it perfect for wearing day or night,” says Nicola Andreatta, vice president and general manager of Tiffany & Co Swiss Watches.

An exemplary synthesis of fine jewellery design and Swiss craftsmanship, the watch’s remarkable bracelet design came from Tiffany’s jewellery archives and was inspired by a design found in the brand’s prestigious Blue Book catalogue, while the asymmetrical case was from an old watch. The dial is from a 19th-century Patek Tiffany, from which the idea of a seconds counter at six o'clock also comes.

Andreatta says the watch’s clean, fluid lines evoke the pace and energy of New York City. Offered in a range of striking and distinctive dials, cases and straps, as well as the refined curve of the stainless steel bracelet, the watch is suitable for all occasions, much like the ever-versatile Big Apple itself, where Tiffany & Co is headquartered.

One of the world's premiere jewellers, the company has been a destination for dazzling diamonds since 1848 when founder Charles Lewis Tiffany purchased important gemstones from European aristocrats and royalty. Those high standards continue to the present: the company rejects 99.96 per cent of the world’s diamonds. In other words, for every 10,000 diamonds, Tiffany & Co picks just four.

The brand has incorporated this legacy into the design of the Tiffany Metro to show the evolution of its proud heritage. Each piece features a round brilliant diamond crown that is assigned an individual serial number, which means that every woman has a unique, certified stone on her watch. In addition, the bezels for most models are topped with diamonds in various designs.

The dials also come in several styles, with 28mm and 34mm faces offering both masculine feminine looks. There are leather straps with colours ranging from burgundy and ice-blue and blush pink and white, and stainless-steel bracelets. The dials each have a flinqué finishing and silver poudre minute track giving the Metro watch a classic yet elegant feel.
