Tai Kwun

Tai Kwun is one of the few locations in the heart of Central that feels expansive thanks to its vast courtyards, large corridors and open balcony spaces. The former Central Police Station compound opened in early 1900s, redevelopment began in 2011, and the space officially opened in 2018 where it is now home to some of the most impressive restaurants and bars in the city. Arts and culture are also key tenets of the space, and the parade ground as well as its gallery JC Contemporary have hosted memorable exhibitions by world-class artists. In addition, efforts have been made to restore the original architecture of the locale and provide historical context for the use of certain areas, which is a fascinating insight into Hong Kong’s past.
