Hong Kong Trade Development Council hosts Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter and World Boutique, Hong Kong next week

HKTDC Focus

Showcasing the creativity and expertise from fashion brands and design talents both locally and globally, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council is set to host both Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter and World Boutique, Hong Kong next week. Some 1,800 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions will take part in the fairs. Scheduled between January 13 and 16, the two highly acclaimed events will introduce some undiscovered talents, showcase established brands and reign in leading design gurus from around the world.

During the events at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, nearly 30 fashion parades will be staged. On opening day, the much-anticipated Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza will highlight collections from designers such as Amaya Arzuaga based in Madrid, Calla Haynes based in Paris, Henry Lau from Hong Kong, and Masha Ma presented by W Hotels Worldwide, who is based in Paris and Shanghai.

The World Boutique this year will feature more than 650 international and local fashion brands and designers, ranging from the world renowned Vivienne Westwood to the locally-based Dorian Ho. Brands and designers such as 2%, i.t, Moiselle, Dianthus D’kangala, HOMANZ, Ken So and Pascal Piveteau will also take part. A main highlight of the World Boutique this year will also include the International Fashion Designers Showcase with 164 global designers from 13 different countries and regions.

Several competitions and shows will be organised throughout the week, with the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2014, Footwear Design Competition Hong Kong 2014 and the Knitwear Symphony 2014 all taking place. Young designers, innovators and talent will showcase their creativity to international buyers in attendance during the Fashion Week and World Boutique events. Also on the agenda for January 15 is the EcoChic Design Award, a sustainable fashion design competition organised by the Hong Kong-based Redress to promote emerging eco-conscious fashion designers who will hopefully inspire mainstream brands to produce fashion with minimal carbon footprints.

Along with the presentation and search for new design talents, many established fashion brands are choosing this occasion to launch many of their new products and designs. A large variety of products will be showcased at the various Brands Collections Shows, Designers Collection Shows and International Fashion on Parade sessions. Hong Kong Fashion Week and the World Boutique provide the perfect platforms for designers and brands to reach out to international buyers and markets.

Not only do these two events showcase many shows, parades and competitions, but they will also be offering a variety of seminars on fashion and design trends. Speakers are set to include Vilaslava Petrova of WGSN, designers Calla Haynes, Henry Lau, Masha Ma, Eddie Lau, Veronique Leroy and Susanna Soo, as well as fashion writer Janice Wong.

Set to take place from January 2 to 23, Hong Kong in Fashion will showcase the city's role as a fashion hub and lifestyle trendsetter, featuring more than 50 partners, some 160 retail outlets and nearly 50 events. Some of the events taking place include the Street Snap Competition, as well as free image and styling services at upscale shopping mall Times Square. Showpieces from designers participating in the Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza event will also be on display at the K11 Piazza from January 8 to 23. Make sure you don't miss out on all that this fashion-filled month has to offer.
