In our style guide by star sign series, we look at how to enhance your personal style according to common traits associated with your zodiac sign—we kick off the series with the confident-in-their-uniqueness Aquarius

Aquarius (January 20-February 18), the 11th sign in the zodiac, is an air sign represented by the water carrier, Ganymede. Ruled by Uranus, which governs innovation, freedom and unexpected events, the people under the Aquarius star sign are thought to commonly exude traits of confidence and individuality, but also of community. They seem to have their own set of rules, by which they play.

Famous Aquarians include Blackpink’s Rosé, BTS’s J-Hope and British singer Harry Styles, and what they all have in common is their well-groomed style that evolves with them. Rather than drastically switching things up, they seem to combine unique elements that suit their overall vibe, whether it’s edgy, street or a little bit kooky.

Here are three ways that all Aquarians can enhance their personal style, based on the said personality traits.

1. Textured monochrome

An instant way for an outfit to feel put together and confident, just like the Aquarius, is to work with a harmonious colour palette, incorporating multiple shades of a single colour—bonus points if it suits your personal colours.

After choosing a colour palette that works for you, play around with items in the same hue but with different textures and shapes. Represent the lightness of your air sign with delicate, flowing fabrics, and juxtapose it with strong silhouettes and textured fabrics to give the ensemble depth and interest.

2. Unexpected details

Add surprising yet complementary details to your outfit such as statement-making accessories, hairstyle changes or bold make-up to represent that out-of-the-box quality many Aquarians have. Opt for a colourful hair highlight that can only be seen if you put your hair up or an unusual accessory such as a fluffy hat or a bag that stands out. Think JW Anderson’s new canary clutch or Loewe’s latest bubble gum heels.

3. Avoid trends

Ignore those trendy items like coquette bows and Bayonetta glasses, and continue rocking whichever aesthetic you already like—but fully commit to it for that true Aquarius feel. Whether you’re a Gorpcore or corpcore enthusiast, you’ve probably liked a particular look much before it became cool—so keep wearing those pieces that are already in your wardrobe with pride and keep doing you.
