With the conclusion of the HBO hit Game of Thrones within sight, speculation is rife about the fate of its remaining characters

If you’ve been living in a bubble, you may not be aware the eight-year HBO saga Game of Thrones, a feast of battle scenes, frequent nudity and shock axing of leading characters, is nearing its end.

For the uninitiated, the mega-popular series, based on the novels of George RR Martin, is about noble families vying for the throne of the mythical land of Westeros as an army of the dead marches against the kingdom after being dormant for thousands of years.

Will those in power put aside their petty squabbles to unite against a common enemy? Fans know that, for now at least, the answer is yes.

The end of season seven saw the reuniting of the remaining Stark children, the forming of a political alliance between Jon Snow and Daenerys, the revelation of the former’s true identity, and Queen Cersei ostensibly joining the fight against the Wight Walkers.

The recent release of the trailer for season eight has sent fans into a new frenzy of speculation about how the final chapter of the story will unfold.

Some say the Night King will raise the dead Starks to fight their own family; others say Jaime Lannister and Sansa Stark will be the next to perish. But will the living defeat the ice dragon? Will Jon and Daenerys have a child? And, most importantly, who will sit on the iron throne?

Gus Lee, Tatler friend and associate director of architecture firm Aedas, fell in love with Martin’s books during his university years and admires the rich and complex story lines told from the different characters’ perspectives.

He thinks that since the franchise has departed from Martin’s control, the conclusion is anyone’s guess— “but I do think the series will end with the Long Winter and with few, if any, survivors.”

The answers will be revealed in the six-episode season that airs from April 14.
