Emporio Armani fuses time-honoured tradition with Art Deco stylings from the 1930s and '40s for its watches

Emporio Armani is well known for its ready-to-wear and runway collections, which focus on contemporary, laid back yet sophisticated designs. Its watches are equally recognisable, and merge traditional elegance with contemporary design.

The brand’s Swiss-made men’s and women’s Modern Retrò collection is particularly notable, offering timepieces that feature comparable face shapes and details, but customised for the masculine or feminine wrist.

The men’s dial design features a quartz sub-second movement and is accentuated with applied curved stick indices. This is paired with a polished rose gold case and a black calf leather strap, which looks equally at home worn on a yacht as at a fancy ball.

The women’s dial for the Modern Retrò collection has a similar style to the men’s, but features an inner track accentuated with 12 diamonds and curved hands, bringing a delicacy to the watch that is missing in the men’s design.

The slim rose gold case is paired with a chic stainless steel three-link bracelet, referencing the signature Emporio Armani women’s bracelet, which has been beloved by fashionistas around the globe. It has all the fluidity and beauty of jewellery but with the technological advances of a Swiss-made watch.

The Classic collection for men has also returned this season with masculine case shapes that immediately elevate the wearer’s entire outfit. It features a rich brown alligator skin strap, a rose gold case and a chestnut open-balance wheel, creating an almost vintage aesthetic in a very modern watch.

There is a similar aesthetic in the Fluid Deco collection for women, which plays off the men’s Classic watch. Both feature a round face in a rose gold case, but in the case of the women’s watch, there is a new petite automatic movement and a luxurious mother-of-pearl dial accentuated with diamond indices.

Harking back to another era of watchmaking when women’s timepieces were more delicate and petite than they are now is the thin burgundy lizard skin strap–the finishing touch of which makes the piece truly feminine.

The Fluid Deco dazzles more than ever when compared with the men’s timepiece, which complements it beautifully. It goes to show that maybe all those poems, love songs and romantic films were right when they said life is made for two.
