Art collectors gathered for the 30th anniversary of Kwai Fung Hin Gallery and the opening of the gallery’s chic new space inside the centre for heritage and arts
Art collectors flooded Tai Kwun on June 13 to celebrate two major milestones: the 30th anniversary of Kwai Fung Hin Gallery and the opening of the gallery’s chic new space inside the centre for heritage and arts.
Since Kwai Fung Hin was founded by Catherine Kwai in 1991, it has gained a reputation for showing some of the best 20th-century Chinese and other Asian art while also championing new talents through hundreds of exhibitions, including collaborations with the Shanghai Art Museum, Suzhou Museum and Asia Society Hong Kong.

The inaugural exhibition in the new space, The Cornerstone, tells the story of the gallery through its past achievements. On display are 15 masterpieces, each representing a different chapter of the gallery’s development over the past three decades. Artists featured in the exhibition, which runs until August 31, include Amadeo Modigliani, Zao Wou-Ki, Lalan, Georges Mathieu and Yoshitomo Nara.
“Despite unprecedented difficulties caused by Covid-19, our gallery has maintained the highest momentum,” Kwai said. “Our presence at Tai Kwun means more than an additional operation space; it is part of our plan to substantially upgrade our future exhibitions and art events. It is a reiteration of our cornerstones [of] passion, curiosity, vision, imagination, boldness, decisiveness, endurance and determination.”
