A Gen.T Soirée At The Newly Opened Crown Super Deluxe, Black Sheep Restaurants' Latest Concept
Over the past eight years, Syed Asim Hussain, co-founder of the Black Sheep Restaurants group and a Gen.T honouree, has opened more than 20 eateries around Hong Kong, many of which now serve some of the city’s most talked-about dishes, among them the famed smashed samosas at The New Punjab Club and the drunken pigeon served at neo-Parisian bistro Belon, both of which have Michelin stars. Joining the hospitality group’s roster is Crown Super Deluxe, a restaurant that sees Hussain shake up the city’s food scene once more by offering a teppanyaki experience that melds the refinement and luxury of Kobe teppanyaki with a dash of Rocky Aoki’s American dream.
On the week beginning May 18, before the restaurant officially opened to the public, Tatler Asia’s chief marketing officer and head of Gen.T Tamara Lamunière, Gen.T’s editor Lee Williamson and Tatler Asia’s chief engagement and events officer Sean Fitzpatrick and hosted a series of intimate soirées for three small groups of Gen.T honourees, including Betty Ng, Sean Lee-Davies, Ruth Chao, Arthur Lam and Sebastian Ko.
Swapping tales, sipping vintage wine and watching meat sizzle on the shiny new griddle, the assembled entrepreneurs witnessed chefs Toru Takano and Ami Hamasaki—also husband and wife—execute culinary wizardry. The Japanese masters delivered a delectable feast of Tokushima tomatoes, spiny lobsters in soy brown butter, sashimi and Kagoshima beef tenderloin. Grilled bites gave way to chocolate mille-feuilles and coconut tarts, as guests toasted bright futures.
The evening became even more magical with the arrival of psychic entertainer Stuart Palm (whose hypnotic tricks left Hercules Chan bamboozled), while a party-starting funk soundtrack sent everyone back out onto Wyndham Street with spirits soaring.
