As part of their farewell and celebration of chef Gray's Kunz's culinary work, the restaurant will present a unique menu featuring creations that best represent the chef's emblematic craft

After being at the heart of the city's luxury dining scene for over a decade, The Upper House's only restaurant, Café Gray Deluxe has announced its closure, with the last day of service on December 31, 2020.

The celebrated cafe set a new tone for Hong Kong's luxury dining scene when it opened in 2009. Its relaxed take on fine dining and warm, personalised service established not just the restaurant but The Upper House as a modern dining destination that eventually fostered a strong local and international following. Located on the 49th floor of the hotel, Café Gray Deluxe's modern European cuisine is as sophisticated as its contemporary muted décor that allows all eyes to be on its stunning cityscape views.

The creative tour-de-force behind Café Gray Deluxe is Gray Kunz, who passed earlier this year but remained highly respected among his peers. Admired around the world for his unique style, chef Gray's signature cuisine is considered an art form itself—blending complex flavours, ingredients and the classic elegance of Asian and European culinary traditions.

As part of their farewell and to pay homage to the chef's incredible culinary work, the restaurant will present a unique menu that showcases chef Gray's emblematic craft such as tarragon scented lobster bisque, braised short rib of beef and chilled soup of chrysanthemum and pear. The menu is available now until the end of December 2020. A curated menu that encapsulates the signature flavours and memories that its diners have cherished over the past 11 years will also be available.

The community are encouraged to share their photos and memories through Instagram by using the hashtag #FarewellCafeDeluxe.

"We thank our friends and guests who have helped shape Café Gray Deluxe's imprint on the community since the beginning. We are all extremely proud of the reputation and success we have gained since 2009 and are excited about the next chapter for The Upper House," said Yvonne Cheung, director of restaurants at The Upper House.

A new dining concept will be revealed in spring 2021, which will mark a new chapter in the innovative dining approach that The Upper House is lauded for. Meanwhile, Café Gray Deluxe at The Middle House in Shanghai will continue to operate as usual.
